Back-tracking

Ok, so I really want to finish updating the August happenings before November rolls around.

August 7, 2008

For the past few months, Vaughn has been obsessed with Diego. We don't even get close to the house from daycare and he will tell me, "Mommy, I NEED to watch Diego." So when my friend Beth asked me what he wanted for his birthday, I told her anything Diego would make him happy.

Today, we received this in the mail:

Diego Knows Your Name

He had to wait, but I hooked up Diego to the computer which had a few basic questions about what he liked and I had to chose his name from a list. Once that was all done and he heard Diego say "Vaughn", he says to me, "Mommy, Diego is talking to me!!"

So this is how he went to bed that night...

Photo shoot! I was hanging out with the kids and just decided to take some photos. I'm glad I did, they were just so cute!

More than ever, I am glad I had the photo shoot with Vaughn last night. Vaughn had an accident today at daycare. He was playing with another child, and I'm not sure exactly what happened other than he fell and ended up pushing his right front tooth back up into his head. I got the phone call at work saying he got hurt and what they did to help him until I got there.

I must say that I was never more proud of my son than when I went to pick him up. He saw me and said "Mommy! I broke my teeth!" He was such a champ about the whole thing. I of course, was a little freaked out and have been concerned about how this will affect his adult teeth, would he have to have this tooth removed? I made arrangements for him to have a dental appointment tomorrow. For now, it is Popsicle's, Motrin and anything he wants to eat.

We woke up to take Kyra to daycare before we went to Vaughn's first ever trip to the dentist. I knew he was still in pain and just looked so sad. His mouth was swollen and he didn't even really want to eat.

I was nervous how Vaughn would behave at the dentist because his mouth already hurts and they'll need to look at it and take x-rays. I was pleasantly surprised how well they treated him and really cater to kids. Not that I should expect anything less from a pediatric dentist but I just remember having a bad experience as a kid and have hated going to the dentist ever since.

The dental assistant gave him bubblegum flavored gloves to wear to set him at ease. We did try to get him to take x-rays but he was not having any of that. She didn't push and said we could try again next time.

A few minutes later, we met with the dentist. He says that unfortunately, he sees this all the time. The reason for this is that children have not developed bone yet in their jaw and it is still mostly cartilage, so it is easy for them when they have a nasty fall to do exactly what he did. He told me not to worry that the tooth would come down on it's own, but I did need to watch for infection, make sure the tooth didn't wiggle and monitor Vaughn for discomfort. All we need to do now is take him back in a month for a follow-up.

This accident was a blessing in disguise however as it helped Vaughn give up the binky. Justin had a talk with him and convinced him that he was a big boy now and he didn't need the binky. Justin spent a half hour with him and he went to sleep without it. Justin = magic when it comes to Vaughn.

Stay tuned for Scrap-cation...that deserves a separate post!

I love the talking Diego because it's like magic in Vaughn's eyes. So sweet. Poor Poor Vaughn. Is his tooth coming down now? How did his follow up visit go? Great news about the binky though. Wish Nicholas would get rid of his, but you know that story.
