Happy 40th Heather!

June 27, 2009

On Tuesday, my sister turned the big 4-0. She wanted a party but I decided because she likes games, I would conduct a Scavenger Hunt. This was fun I think more for me than for her. Our friend Su helped me write the clues and we discussed places we would leave them and the order of each place.

First I told her she needed to drive to Sam's Club. I wanted her to have gas as we were going to make her drive around town. So I bought her some gas and then I gave her the first clue. This was to take her practically back to her house to get a smoothie that Kevin bought for her and left the clue.

Once she figured out the destination off we went to the Smoothie King.

Here's her expression when she figured out we were having a Scavenger Hunt.

When dreaming up this scheme, I did not think about how this would embarrass her. This was just a bonus! Poor Heather, out of her comfort zone. Luckily, her next clue was to take her to pick up her friend Marna. The clue said "When you're here, you're family! Ok... not YOU, but you can find one of your family members here." It took her FOREVER to figure out it was Olive Garden, because she couldn't remember their slogan. I thought it was funny, especially because I know she would never step foot in Olive Garden. She isn't a fan of Italian food. I'm not really sure how we're related. Anyways...she picked up Marna and Marna gave her some 10 stems of Carnations and her clue, which directed her to Borders.

Marna

Borders was hysterical because she didn't know exactly where to look. Marna and I tried to give her some general hints without giving it away. We were having too much fun watching her walk in circles, until she figured out she should stand in line and ask someone. She never did see the clue behind the counter...but I did!

Inside the envelope was a very nice bookmark and her next clue to take her to to a home improvement store, but she didn't know which one. Lucky for her she guessed rigth and was able to pick up Su on the first try. Su also had 10 stems for Heather in addition to the next clue.

Off we went to Party City. She guess this one right away, but didn't know what or who she was picking up.

Here she picked up her next to last clue, Where a Kid can be a kid! Off to Chuck E Cheese we went. The original plan was to just send Rachel in with flowers to wait for Heather and then we would pick her up and leave. Kevin thought he needed to go in, so he brought in Rachel, Vaughn & Kyra and waited at a booth. I had no idea he was going to do this, I felt terrible. Vaughn didn't understand why he couldn't stay and play at Chuck E Cheese. I still owe him a day there so he can go wild.

Last clue took us to Marna's house where she had a wonderfully yummy Pinapple Upside Down cake waiting for us and the rest of the guests. It was nice, we had dessert first then pizza!

Heather received many thoughtful gifts from her friends and family and we had a very nice party. I hope this is a birthday she will always remember!

You put so much thought and effort into this. She should feel so loved! I love all the pictures along the way too. And the comment about being related. That was pretty funny about Italian food.
