CHRISTMAS 2008

December 25, 2008

A warning...this is picture heavy! :)

Today was a whirlwind trip. I had so much to do and as usual, couldn't get it all done in the amount of time I had. I eeked it out this year and didn't complete everything. It was very frustrating but I'm but one person (I keep reminding myself).

Our whirlwind trip started early in the morning, making sure all the gifts were packed for the family. Then opening the stockings and getting ready.

Once we were all ready, we hopped in the truck and drove to my parents house. My mom has decided that orange hair will be a new Christmas tradition. She must like our shocked reactions. She started this last year, I believe the orange was an accident last year but I know this year it was completely on purpose!

Vaughn really loved opening presents and like last year, he wanted to open every package he got to play with it right then and there! My grandmother gave him a Thomas the Train remote control choo choo, he had to have it opened immediately. Of course they screwed the train into the packaging and needs a million batteries. Vaughn was very impatient waiting for us to get it out!

Kyra of course was fascinated by the wrapping paper and tearing it off when helped. But really had no clue what she was supposed to do with the stuff she got!

I haven't even got to the best part (at least to me)!

My parents have been married 40 years this past September, and my Dad decided for Christmas he would give my mom a new diamond. She really wanted an oval one and placed in a very simple setting. So the day after Thanksgiving my dad drove down to Tampa and we went to The Jewelry Exchange. I made him completely blow his budget but it was worth it.

The plan was to give Mom a fake diamond (supplied by me) and then after all the gifts were open he was to give her the real one. So she opens the fake one and believed it was real. Her reaction was pretty good too.

Mr. Impatient however, didn't want to wait until everyone was done to give her the real one! I got my video camera ready, and everyone else had their camera's out. She was really surprised and she loved it.

After gifts Justin & I packed up the gifts and the kids and drove up to Jacksonville to visit his grandmother. Her birthday is Christmas Eve and it is important to me that we go see her for Christmas and spend time with Justin's family. She was so happy to see the kids and be able to "bounce the grands on her knee". I hope that in 2009 we can make more of an effort to see her more than once a year.

After 3 1/2 hours, we headed home. It was a short visit, but worth every minute of it.

I hate that you live so far away from me, but I am so happy you are close to family. It's so important to be near them, especially around the holidays. Kyra looked so cute in her outfit. Didn't you buy stock in Energizer when you found out you were pregnant? Darned batteries.

Oh yea, and when I saw the picture of your Mom I was shocked. ORANGE? Thankfully you explained it or otherwise I would have thought the sun was baking her brain. HA!.
