June Happenings

June was an eventful month, but not all good events. At the first of the month, our garage door opener decided to stop working. We had to get a new one, but thankfully that is covered under our condo association dues so I didn't have to pay for that out of pocket while I'm not working! One of my very dear friends Sherri got to meet Kyra. This was a miracle in itself as she is quite the road warrior and is almost NEVER home. We had our "private" baby shower where she bought Kyra a disgusting amount of clothes and they are so awesome! I could have a little fashion show of all the clothes she got her. Not to mention the cute little blankets (pooh of course), brush and comb set, pacifiers, and the temporal scan thermometer I wanted. She spoiled me and Kyra and we had a great time hanging out together. June 8th I took the kids to my parents house for a few days. I was hoping to get a little help with Kyra and get some sleep. I think I ended up sleeping less than I would if I had been at home but that is mostly because Kyra still wasn't allowed to be given a bottle to prevent nipple confusion. I couldn't go swimming either so that was just torture!! But Vaughn had a great time standing in the pool, showing of his new life jacket. Vaughn also tested out the new life jacket by falling into the pool. He was reaching, reaching, reaching for Moxie's ball that he drops in the pool intentionally, and he reached just a little too far, got off balance and in he went! I told him to roll onto his back which he did and he ended up floating right to me where I pulled him out. He didn't cry, he just had this surprised look on his face. Needless to say, he wasn't quick to want to get back in the pool, he was done for the day. We ended up going home on the 10th but I know my Memere had a great time visiting with the kids. She didn't have that luxury when Heather's kids were babies as they always lived in Florida and if I remember correctly, she only came to visit twice. It's nice she now lives in Florida with the rest of us. June 15th I ended up back at my parent's house to celebrate Father's Day. My mom had also made a cake which was very tasty. She decided she wanted to caramelize the peaches but ended up making it more like rock candy. She decided it would be a little birthday cake for my sister as her birthday would be in a week. Meanwhile, Kyra was sleeping in a makeshift bed. My mom decided that instead of setting up her playpen, she would place quilts in a basket and put her in there. She did look pretty cute. June 18th I discover my air conditioner is broken. I didn't put it together until the evening of the 17th because it just wouldn't cool off and the house smelled of chemical. It turns out what I was smelling was oil. The compressor had exploded and instead of compressing air, it was compressing oil causing the smell. So I had to have the entire unit replaced. Not exactly an expenditure we were expecting which was even more stressful as I am not making my full salary while on maternity leave. My leave benefits pretty much just cover the mortgage and a few gallons of milk. June 22 my baby turned 1 month old. She keeps me up all night and doesn't sleep much during the day either. Her longest stretch of sleep comes between 4 or 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and then sometimes she will go back to sleep after that but it seems like it is not for long. Tired does not begin to convey how I feel. The only saving grace is that I am able to take Vaughn to daycare during the day so I only have to deal with her and not try to be patient with him too. She is still colicky in the middle of the night and she tends to puke a lot. That was very frustrating but I think I have managed to figure out how to get her to stop doing that for the most part. June 23rd, Heather's birthday. Kevin drove her over to my side of town and we all had dinner at Applebee's. That was really nice because Kevin understood I wanted to see her but I was not really fit to drive a long distance. After dinner, I took the kids home and put them in bed. Tonight Vaughn displayed his new "trick" for me that I had to get on video!

We all survived the month of June with the new little one. I leave you with my favorite picture of her that I took of her on June 29th. She has a beautiful smile and I smile whenever I see this picture.

Wow, what a month. All those expenses weren't exactly what you needed while dealing with a new baby and limited income! That's scary about Vaughn falling into the pool, but thankfully he listened and was ok. Even though I miss you like crazy, I'm so glad you have your family down there. Well, most of them. I'm still up here. ;)
