Today was my 34th birthday and it was so nice. Justin had called me Friday afternoon to tell me not to make plans for Satuday morning. That isn't difficult as I don't usually make morning plans.
I was so curious as I had no idea what it could be and he gave me no hints whatsoever. I felt so special that he would go to such an effort to surprise me. I love surprises (good ones anyways).
I got out of bed around 9 a.m. after feeding Kyra. I gave Vaughn his favorite breakfast (fruit loops), and washed a few dishes. I told Vaughn it was my birthday today, and he said it was his birthday too. Lately, a lot of birthdays are celebrated at daycare so he is very in to them. He talked about birthdays a lot the rest of the day.
I could hear Justin's alarm going off through the monitor and not wanting to be late for my own surprise I went upstairs to make sure he was out of bed. He told me I had to hurry up and get ready as we had to be "there" by 11:15.
So after much waiting, we all get in the car. We chatted as we headed towards Dale Mabry Highway. As we got onto Dale Mabry, he pulls out a cloth headband I had and told me that I needed to put it on over my eyes as a blindfold. I laughed at him but he was serious. I felt like a total idiot but put the headband on over my eyes and then put my sunglasses on, thankfully, no photos were taken. I really had no idea until he made a phone call as he wasn't sure if he had missed the location or not, and even then I wasn't sure. My original thought was that he was going to take me out for a birthday breakfast. Nope.
We get to our destination and I still have to keep the blindfold on as he leads me gently out of my truck. He directs me where to go and as we get inside there is the unmistakeable smell of a hair salon. He had taken me to Mystic Salon & Spa. I had been there a few times before YEARS ago for haircuts but as it is a bit pricey I didn't continue.
I still had no idea what I was there for until the receptionist led me back for my first treatment, a 25-minute massage. Something I needed desperately. The day before I had managed to stress myself out so much at work regarding a project that I ended up locking up the muscles in my neck and upper back. My massage therapist was really shocked when he felt how tight the muscles were, especially in my neck. He advised me that I should get a massage once a month, or at the very least every other month. I just wish my budget could afford a bi-monthly treat.
My next treatment was a spa pedicure with Regina. Regina and I chatted easily and I then learned my next treatment would be a manicure, also with her. I knew I had one more treatment which was a shampoo and blow dry. We had been talking about how my hair had changed from being somewhat easily styled to so difficult since I moved to Florida 10 years ago. She took it as a challenge and once the manicure was done we rushed over to the hair salon portion of the spa.
She ended up giving me a trim although I know she wanted to cut more, she respected my reluctance. Maybe the next time I will be brave, but not today. She said we needed to come up with a hair formula special for my hair as she agreed it was the challenge I told her it would be.
Justin arrived within minutes of my relaxation transformation and I could tell he liked what he saw. We went home so I could feed Kyra and we decided what we would do for dinner. He had orignally wanted to have dinner with my parents, his Dad and Alaina, but due to the late notice, the all of the parents had plans. So we took the kids to Chili's and had a nice dinner together.
After dinner I picked up my brother-in-law at the airport. Heather and the kids met me at my house and we then went to Applebee's. I had dessert, a nice hot apple pie with ice cream. YUM! After dinner it was definitely time for Vaughn to go to bed and I know Kevin was tired so after a short visit at the house they went home and the kids and I got ready for bed.
It really was a great birthday.

I'm so glad Justin treated you to a day of pampering. You so deserve it. And you deserve a monthly massage. Tell him to quit the smokes so you can get a massage! haha. Hey, you forgot to add all the great gifts you got from you BFF!
